Chicken Haleem Recipe in English

Chicken Haleem is a traditional Pakistani and Indian dish that everyone likes to eat. It goes well with naans, pitta breads and boiled rice. Let’s know how to make chicken haleem at home using easily available ingredients.

Chicken Haleem Recipe: required ingredients

125 g wheat grain (gehu)
125 g split bengal gram (daal chana)
¾ kg chicken
½ cup yogurt
2 tsp red chili powder
½ black pepper powder
½ tsp whole spice powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp salt
125 g cooking oil
2 small pieces of bay leaf
4 thinly chopped onions (2 for chicken and fry the remaining to garnish haleem)
Fresh coriander leaves
2 Green chilies (thinly chipped)
Ginger (finely chopped

Chicken Haleem Recipe: Cooking instructions

Submerge gehu and daal chana in fresh water for night. (Use separate pots to submerge the two ingredients).
Next morning, cook gehu and daal chana along with a pinch of salt and 2 tbsp. cooking oil.
When both constituents become soft and tender, remove from heat, let them cool down and blend in a blender.
Transfer blended gehu and daal chana in the pan and keep aside.
Wash the chicken properly and let it dry and cut into small pieces.
Take one glass of water in a pan, add chicken pieces and keep the pan on stove over medium heat.
After about half hour, remove the pan from stove. Separate chicken pieces from yakhni, let them cool down and then turn them into thin fibers.
Add cooking oil in another pan, heat it and fry onion till it become golden brown.
Add boiled chicken fibers, yakhni and other spices, cook until the water has been dried.
Now add it into the blended gehu and daal chana, mix well and cook until it thickens.
Delicious chicken haleem is ready, transfer it in serving bowl, garnish with coriander leaves, green chilies and fried onions.
Serve hot with naans, pitta breads or boiled rice.
